Indomethacin
Indomethacin is used to control preterm labor contractions. It is usually given in pill form, though it is available as a liquid or suppository. Indomethicin is an anti-inflamitory drug that works by blocking prostaglandins (special chemicals which the body makes) that promote uterine contractions. Indomethicin is used as a short-term tocolytic, usually for 24 or 48 hours.

When you first take indomethacin be aware that you may get a whopper of a headache. Some other side affects include:

  • Dizziness
  • Upset stomach or cramps
  • Constipation or diarrhea (if it's not one it's the other!)
  • Nervousness
